Rezz Debuts 'PORTAL' To a Sold-Out Crowd

After years of curation and months of anticipation, Rezz has debuted PORTAL to her largest crowd yet. Her latest audiovisual endeavor fits right into her dark brand with hypnotic spirals and twisting visuals. The immersive experience took place in front of a sold-out crowd at Cow Palace, an indoor arena in the Bay Area, on March 1st.

Rezz had been teasing the stage production since its announcement, uploading short videos and pictures to social media. She described the visuals with the words, “hypnosis, horror, and optical illusions” while standing in front of a rotating portal lined with eyeballs. Parts of the show used lasers to create art on the massive screen she played in front of.

PORTAL has received widespread attention for its innovative approach to the visual aspect of live music. The laser tricks and captivating animations combined with Rezz’s signature sound created an impressive spectacle that she is proud of – and rightfully so.

A dedicated and hard-working team – with Alex van Roon on lighting and lasers and the FISE and X CVLT teams on animations – created the show. Visuals from Ofir K, Jonni, and Maskarade also helped bring the show to life.

She expressed her excitement for how the project turned out, saying, “…exactly how I imagined it. Wanted it to feel like an otherworldly experience.”

Rezz has already had a busy year. In the last month alone, she was nominated for a Juno Award, dropped a song with Grabbitz, and revealed a collaboration with Anyma at The Sphere – complete with custom visuals.

She is set to play festivals like EDC Las Vegas, Shambhala, and VELD this year while creating her most impressive production thus far. This show was only the beginning for PORTAL and Rezz promised that more editions would come.
