After teasing the single for a few months, Fred again.. and Obongjayar have released their dreamy collaboration, “adore u.” “adore u” marks the evolution of Fred again..’s creation as he teams up with Nigerian singer, Obongjayar, for a warm, comforting vibe. They recently performed the track live for the first time, showcasing the connection it brings.
The song begins with an intriguing melody and singer Obongjayar’s beautiful voice and heartfelt lyrics. As the track builds, the wavy instrumental continues with prominent bongos and cymbals before Prince Markie Dee takes over the break. The song is overflowing with love and gratitude from beginning to end as an ode to the artist’s family.
In a series of Instagram posts, the artists shared the process of creating “adore u” and the message behind the song. “This song means a whole lot to me and this version with Fred exposes the celebration of love that it carries within it, and the joy of that love. I think it is really beautiful and I hope you do too [hand heart emoji]. This one is you, this one is for your family, this one is for your lovers, this one is for your friends,” Obongjayar said.
Fred again.. echoed the sentiment, writing, “OB [Obongjayar] made this song for his lil brother. I made it for my lil sister without knowing this. So to me, it’s for siblings, in any way that manifests.”
Fred again.. took over the electronic music scene this year with a Boiler Room debut, back-to-backs with Skrillex and Four Tet, and three nominations at the Brit Awards. During that time, he released Actual Life 3 and Secret Life before teasing three tracks on social media, including “adore u.” He has continued to gain support from listeners as he explores different styles that build on his distinct music.
