Shaquille O’Neal, also known as DJ Diesel, is making massive waves in dubstep as he plays sets at EDC Las Vegas, Lost Lands, and Forbidden Kingdom, among others. This year, though, the “Biggest DJ in the World” is switching things up and planning his own festival.
The NBA legend began DJing as a teenager and continued to play during his basketball career, releasing two rap albums in the early 1990s. In 2015, TomorrowWorld welcomed him for his festival debut, sending Shaq into a spiral of playing iconic festivals and shows of his own.
Since gaining traction, DJ Diesel has been committed to playing music from smaller artists. Last November, he posted his email on Twitter, encouraging producers to send him demos, receiving hundreds shortly after. He has since upheld his end of the deal, dropping bangers from rising musicians.
His dedication to finding fresh tracks for his sets implies the curation of a lineup with underground and prominent artists alike. Many artists replied to his posts on social media regarding him creating his own festival including Space Wizard, Deathpact, MUST DIE!, and others.
DJ Diesel has a few shows scheduled this summer, including a set at the highly-anticipated Bass Canyon in Washington. He was featured on Blackway’s “King Talk” with KoKo followed by his single, “Tornado” with Bandlez and Rated R.
He recently dropped Shaq Pack – a 10-track edit compilation with some of DJ Diesel’s favorite singles. Sign up to receive a free download here.
