On the cusp of his first ever album tour, melodic dub don Seven Lions made a pit stop in Aspen with one of his most intimate, iconic sets to date.
Hidden in the snowy mountain village of Aspen, Belly Up sports an incredibly unique music experience. Something about the densely quiet stroll to the venue on streets covered in freshly fallen snow evokes a distinct surge of excited anticipation. With snowy mountain slopes standing watch on either side of the small town, the silent night was a perfect preset before one of the closest experiences attainable with Seven Lions and Gem & Tauri supporting.
The venue itself has a capacity of 450 people, a stark contrast for an artist like Seven Lions, who often headlines massive festivals like EDC Las Vegas in front of tens of thousands. The stage contains a single curved visual board background, and the front side of Seven Lions‘ dj platform acted as a second smaller board. Sound quality is actually quite good, and the crowd is primarily composed of true committed fans of the music, considering the logistical hurdles one must overcome to get there.
It was a special night for all those in attendance, as Seven Lions debuted many sounds that had yet to be heard by an audience, including his voice.
Yes, Seven Lions spoke on the mic. Which anyone who’s followed along over the past decade knows, he’s notorious for letting his music do the talking.
Now, this isn’t the first time he’s ever done this. Trivecta was able to get him to utter a couple words in their Sunset Music Festival after party b2b at the Ritz Ybor in 2021. And there may be one or two other times, but this was at length, and an unprecedented occurrence.
He said he plans to continue this trend on tour.
It wasn’t really in question before this set took place, but now we have confirmation: ‘The Journey III – Beyond the Veil’ tour is going to be one for the record books. Everything Seven Lions has meticulously crafted over his 10 year alias has been leading to this upcoming run of shows.
