One of Canada’s largest dance music festivals is celebrating its 25th anniversary at the Salmo River Ranch from July 26th to the 29th. With less than a week until Shambhala Music Festival, here is an overview of this year’s edition. The event roots itself in values like love, community, consent, and acceptance.
The festival began in 1998 and has become a staple of the dance music scene. It has contributed to event safety and harm reduction to ensure a fun experience. With 24 years currently under its belt, Shambhala has been shaped into an annual weekend of music creativity, and dancing.
This year, Shambhala has invited some of the most in-demand acts to British Columbia for a weekend of dance music. Headliners include bass artists Excision, Ganja White Night, G Jones, and Subtronics. San Holo, LSDream, Bonobo, and Chromeo are also performing, along with Dillon Francis, Tipper, and Disclosure. James Blake will perform a DJ set, as will Anderson .Paak’s as DJ Pee Wee.
Daily Bread and Matroda are making their way to Salmo River, as are Tape B and Zingara. Drum and bass DJs Dimension and Hedex will play, as will Tsuruda and BIJOU. Other artists include Moore Kismet, Ahee, Maddy O’Neal, and many more.
Apart from a diverse lineup, Shambhala focuses on merging community with the arts. It offered a variety of events and programming including food and artisan markets, art galleries, workshops, and yoga. From a pride parade to a wish tree and even a wedding chapel, there is always something to discover.
Festival-goers are also encouraged to dip into the Salmo River next to the 500-acre farm where Shambhala lives. The 25th anniversary of Shambhala is approaching quickly and set to be a birthday unlike any other. Check out its official website for more information on this year’s edition.
